Safari Highlights
Over 90 species of mammals, amphibians and reptiles and over 400 birds species have been recorded in the Masai Mara Wildlife reserve. Nowhere else in the African continent is wildlife more abundant than Masai Mara, and it is for this reason a visitor hardly misses to see the big five (buffalo, elephant, leopard, lion, and rhino).
Other game include hippopotamus, cheetah, Grant’s gazelle, impala, topi, Coke’s hartebeest, giraffe, Roan antelope and the nocturnal bat-eared fox. However wildebeest are main dominant inhabitants of the Masai Mara.
The Great Migration
Their numbers are estimated to be in millions. The Great Migration starts in July each year where over one million wildebeest along with large numbers of Thompson’s Gazelle, zebra and other herbivores migrate from the Serengeti plains in Tanzania into Masai Mara on the north for fresh pastures in the north and then back south again in October.Masai Mara is regarded as the Nothern extension of the Serengeti.
Day 1:
Masai Mara game reserve
After breakfast at your Nairobi hotel, you will be picked and transferred to Wilson Airport. Your flight will take off at 10am local time. This a low scenic flight, along the floor of the rift valley. A private safari vehicle will be waiting for you at the Masai mara airstrip. English speaking driver guide will be with you throughout, for the safari drives. Afternoon game safari. Dinner and overnight at a luxury Lodge or Luxury Camp.
Day 2:
Masai Mara game reserve full day
Spend the entire day in the game reserve, searching for the big five animals. You can discuss with the driver on which animals to search each day. On a luck day it’s very easy to spot the big cats, for example lions, cheetahs and leopards. If you are animals’ enthusiasts, you can ask the guide to order for picnic lunches on the previous evening. This will enable to have a full day game drive without break.
Meals and overnight at a Luxury lodge or luxury tented Camp.
Day 3:
Nairobi
Depart after breakfast or after lunch, and be transferred to Airstrip for your morning or afternoon flight, back to Nairobi. On arrival at Wilson Airport, we will meet you and drive to your hotel in the Nairobi city. Or better to the Nairobi international Airport for your homeward flight later.
